The Disguiser (伪装者) Recap Links

I finally managed to start The Disguiser, and boy am I glad that I did! It's so good! Not only is it a great drama, but it has so many actors and actresses from Nirvana in Fire, so that makes it extra special.

For those of you unfamiliar with the drama, it's set in the era of Japanese occupation of China, and it's a spy games, thriller drama about the anti-Japanese resistance, among other things. It's a very gritty and brutal part of history and I always appreciate learning more about the time period. And of course a good spy thriller is always excellent to watch, especially when it's as well done as this one.

JoAnne and Kakashi, over at The Problematic of the Unproblematic, allowed me to jump in with commenting for The Disguiser recaps as well as the Nirvana in Fire ones. I joined them in episode 6 for commenting, but here are the links for the first five episodes (I commented a lot in the comments section at the bottom for the first 5 episodes anyway) and then the next three where I've joined in for the actual posts. Enjoy! I really do love working with these two intelligent and excellent women!

Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, and Episode 8.

The drama not only has some really excellent performances from Hu Ge, Jin Dong, Wang Kai, Liu Ji Yun, Song Yi, Liu Min Tao, and Wang Ou, but the cinematography, writing, mood, tone, lighting, soundtrack, directing, costuming, and set design are incredibly excellent.

Hu Ge is phenomenal as Ming Tai and Song Yi is just lovely as Yu Man Li. I mean it's one thing if people are beautiful, but boy can these actors act as well. It's just such a treat to watch them.

And Jin Dong and Wang Kai are a lovely team together in the drama. We didn't get to see Jin Dong much in Nirvana in Fire, but luckily he's onscreen here a lot. He has such charisma and charm and you can tell he and Wang Kai enjoy working together. In interviews Jin Dong has said that it's like acting with himself. Yay for bromance! And sexy-adorable actors.

Another amazing pairing is the relationship between Hu Ge and Liu Ji Yun's characters. Their chemistry and dynamic is palpable and a pleasure to watch.

Another thing that I'm super duper insanely glad about, is that Wang Kai is in this drama as well. So forgive the following pic spam. And boy does he look fiiiiiiiine!!! So dapper and handsome. So handsome. That jawline. That face. That voice.

And that smile. Killer.
