Getting to Know the Neighbours: A Second Round of Liebsters

I live in a city. A city without houses and walls and where I almost never see my neighbours face to face. We speak in typed print and *sighs* and *swoons* and 140 character sentences peppered with Korean, and occasionally meet up for dinner, but rarely so. In our city, while for one the sun might rise, for another, it is setting and we meet somewhere in the middle and say our goodmornings and goodnights. We share our news, and squee, and console, and laugh, and rant, and sometimes swap recipes. Some of us are students, old and young, some of us are parents, or grandparents, some of us are lawyers or teachers, homemakers or experts in an interesting field. We are a varied, interesting, and diverse city, thriving with loves and joys and tears and heartbreak, which we all share and cry on cyber shoulders or laugh together for a moment. And the interesting thing is that despite our disagreeing sometimes, we are friends. Friends who span continents and yet reside in an intimate and sometimes strange community of people who often seem like family. We are a world, a universe unlike any other I have ever encountered. And I love it.

So my fellow city dwellers in the land of the Korean drama bloggersphere and the Twitterverse, it is a strange, weird, and wonderful world, and I love it. I never really dreamed that this universe teeming with rather intelligent, witty, and hilarious life actually existed, that I would become a part of it, and that I would become friends with people I had never met. But voila! Here I am. And here is this blog - the product of two friends who decided on the crazy idea to intrepidly journey into the K-drama universe. I am so glad we did. When I was in the midst of thesis throes and thinking I would never get to watch another drama episode ever, I would occasionally venture onto Twitter or someone's blog, or reply to a tweet and check in with my drama people. And you were always so friendly and cheered me on. I know I am getting kind of sappy here, but really, I think of you and wonder how you're doing and what dramas you're watching. It gives me hope for a better world; a place where people seek for common ground.

[All the pictures here come from the MV Geeks ft. Ailee - Wash Away] [English Lyrics]

I actually started this post a while ago, and I can't remember if it was before or after kfangirl's really daebak post about this lovely and rather crazy universe we are all a part of. And then I left this draft sitting in the drafts folder and ended up using a completely different way of approaching the Liebster Award post I ended up writing (because this is what this was going to be originally). But tonight I remembered it, and the imagery of the city came to mind, and I had to start writing this post again. Recently the lovely Jaime of The Drama Noona blog and misscupcakees of A Fairytale World nominated me for Liebster Awards, and I ended up answering their questions on their post comment threads...but I've decided to actually turn them into a post. So here goes.

Some of the questions overlapped, and some I skipped in the rewrite of this post.

1. How did you get into blogging about drama?
I was watching Queen In-Hyun's Man as it was airing, and it was impossible to find it subbed anywhere, so I read a lot of recaps etc. and I loved the drama so much and I wanted to say so much about, so my friend (blogging buddy bustered - who's been taking a blogging hiatus) and I started our blog! And we posted some posts about Queen In-Hyun's Man and then actually went kind of viral, and it really surprised us. Here are the posts: Ode to Kim Boong Do, and Queen In-Hyun's Man. I was pretty pleased because never in a million years did I really believe that people wanted to read what I wrote about Korean drama.

As for drama: in about August 2011 a friend who loves Bollywood (and K-drama) said I should try some Korean drama. She suggested My Name is Kim Samsoon. I finally watched in November that year over Thanksgiving break, and I've been hooked ever since! She actually started her own blog at K-What?! And she's the one who suggested that I check out Deeno's blog, Mad Dino Asylum, and then I found out we lived in that same city! So we've hung out a few times, and just went to dinner in fact.

2. What's your all-time favourite drama tope that you can watch over and over again?
Hmmm...that's a hard one. I actually really like the "contract marriage" or "living in the same house" trope. It makes for lots more awkwardness and often funny skinship accidents, as well as the couple actually falling in love. I think it breaks down a lot of social barriers too. And then there are all sorts of funny misunderstandings with friends and parents etc. and just generally funny high-jinks all round.

3. Who is your favourite OTP and why?
I am actually not sure if I can really answer this one. I just don't know. One of my recent ones is Do Min Joon and Chun Song Yi in You From Another Star. They are just hilarious together, and they have great chemistry. Chemistry goes a long way on film, and doesn't always have to be sexual either. I LOVE the epic bromance of Lee Jong Seok and Kim Woo Bin which they demonstrated so nicely in School 2013. I also really loved the pairing in King of Dramas, I also really love Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin together in Secret Garden, and of course the sizzling chemistry of our Queen In-Hyun's Man couple (both on and off screen). But I also love Cha Chi Soo and Yang Eun Bi in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop - that kimchi kiss! The Princess' Man is another one that was just epically lovely and smouldery. See, I can't answer this question!

4. Who do you have the most severe SLS (Second Lead Syndrome) towards?
Another impossible one to answer ;) I think I am going to have to go with the beloved Prosecutor in City Hunter because it was the first time I became acquainted with SLS. I would say that the second lead in The Greatest Love is also up there.

5. What is your favourite MV?
I can't even begin to go there! I tried to make a short post about Korean rap and hip-hop, and soon I had 63 songs on the list! And when I made a mixed tape playlist for kfangurl, yeah...that one turned into 74 songs! I don't even know if she's managed to get through all of them ;) One of the most beautiful MVs I've ever seen is Naul's Memory of the Wind (it also stars the pillar from FBRS). It is just gorgeous and wonderful! It won the best MV award category in our 2012 K-Pop Awards.

6. What is one drama you ever regret having started regardless of whether you finished it or not?
You're the Best Lee Soon Shin. I've watched 29 episodes of that sucker and it still hasn't gotten any better...though I have some friends who say I need to carry on watching because it does get better. I do want to see IU-Jo Jung Seok cuteness...so maybe I will. Maybe.

7. Poor girl, rich guy. Write up a drama plot revolving around them.
I think I wouldn't. It would have to be a rich woman, the secret, orphaned heiress who has left the company fortune to be managed by her Alfred like butler because she just wants to be a nature conservationist. (That way we can see more of Korea's gorgeous scenery). He's a penniless professor who has a loving family (yeah, not too original) who will feature at some point later. They're on some sort of expedition and they get stranded somewhere remote and he's injured and she has to care for him. There is no cellphone reception...maybe they will have to be somewhere not in Korea for this part, I'm not sure (though I am sure there are parts of Korea that get no cellphone reception, right?!) Well, they start to get to know each other and start to feel attraction, but he's her professor (even though there isn't a large age gap), but she saves his life. Then they get back to civilization and she has to leave the expedition to deal with a crisis back home. The butler has died (perhaps murder) and now she has to run the company even though she doesn't want to, or stand it being absorbed into a larger company that destroys the environment. When the professor comes to Seoul to find her, he realizes that the name and information she gave him was fake (to protect her identity). Actually, why don't we make him a North Korean who escaped to South Korea. There's some nice conflict there. Luckily her little sister really wants to run the company, so that gets sorted out. Right now I have no idea how the story progresses or ends, but I can imagine it ending with a nice, good long kiss, and not some silly camera panning eternal peck on the lips. And it can be under a star studded sky or something. Or maybe we should go all The Painted Veil on this and turn it into a melodrama. Forget it. I just want a well-written drama with no silly second leads, just supporting actors and actresses. And that people have a non-dysfunctional family, and that the OTP have a more realistic relationship. Let's just forget chaebols completely. And something that ends well, and doesn't side-swipe us at the end. Is that too much to ask?

8. Who are some guys (or girls) that you can just stare at for days and night without them even having to do anything?
Buahahahaha. I have no idea. Jung Kyung Ho is someone I am still pretty hardcore crushing on. Cruel City still makes me all emotional. At dinner the other night, Deeno and I were gushing about that drama. There's just something out him. Hyun Bin is my K-drama first love, so he had better be on the list. Lee Beom Soo is a recent find I love. And Choi Jin Hyuk...man...when he was the Gumiho in Gu Family Book *swoon* and his voice...which reminds me, I need to DL those wake-up calls...

9. How did you come up with the name for your blog?
By coincidence (or fate or something), my blogging buddy and I had both first watched My Name is Kim Samsoon. It was the drama that had gotten us hooked, and with it our addiction would later lead us to becoming BFFs. And being that watching drama is somewhat like Alice down the rabbithole...Samsoon Down the Rabbithole.

10. Do you have someone to watch dramas with?
Sometimes. bustered and I would sometimes watch dramas together, but she's not here right now. I do have a couple of friends though that occasionally get together and watch Korean drama or a Korean film or go out together and eat delicious, delicious Korean food together! And I have plenty of friends here in the dramaverse that I feel like it's sort of like watching drama together.

And I've added some questions from my nomination from Janey of Asian Fixations. (I skipped a few, but I have sort of answered some of them in the questions above, or in the last Liebster post I did. If you want some more answers, I will totally add some Janey).

11. If your life were turned into a drama/movie, who do you want to play you?
Good question. I have no idea. If we go with Korean actresses, I would have to say I would want Shin Min Ah just because I love her...but yeah...I don't know if I am really like her enough. It's hard to know who I identify most with in the Korean actress field. As for western film, I've been told I'm Hermione...

12. What's the one movie you can watch a hundred times and never get tired of?
Hmm...that's hard. I collect films and TV series and I currently own around 370 or so. I often go through and rewatch things (I'm the same way with books). I often rewatch period pieces like Jane Eyre (the Toby Stephens version) or North and South. But I have a wide variety of genre loves, so I can't really just pick one. I also have a pretty vast Bollywood collection, and I'm working on my Korean one.

13. If you're given the chance to record a duet, what song would you sing and who'd be the one singing with you?
Right now I'm on a bit of a Kim Soo Hyun high...so it might be fun to record "Dreaming" from Dream High with him as a duet (boy can he cry beautifully!). Or maybe something with Hyun Bin (his "That Man" from Secret Garden was the first K-pop song I ever bought (I know he's not really a singer). I also really love Kim Bo Kyung's "Suddenly" from City Hunter. LYn would also be really amazing to sing with! I also loved the OST songs from Cruel City, those I would sing. I am terrible at answering this question. Sorry! (I would also love to meet INFINITE and VIXX). As for the next question...you can always check out the K-Pop Corner for some of my K-pop taste ;). And the movie/drama with the best OST. That's a hard one. I would have to say that in my opinion sageuk have the best OSTs around. The OSTs for The Princess' Man and The Moon that Embraces the Sun have some of the most beautiful music around!

14. "Are monsters born or made?" - White Christmas
What an interesting question! I think that maybe it's a bit of both. I think though that most of the time we have a choice. I think it can get really complicated though and that people who are "monsters" that it's never really one cause, but rather a complicated array of factors known and unknown. I think we know too little about the human mind, chemistry, and the outside influences that might go into the making of a person. So really, I don't know.

And so my dearest neighbours, I want to get to know you a little better. If you want, you are welcome to make another liebster post and link bak to me, or feel free to just comment in the comments section below. I have tried to ask different questions that those I posed last time, so even if I've nominated you before, please check out the new questions.

  1. Aw! This is why I love the bloggersphere ❤ I look forward to your answers! ^^

  2. Jaime the Drama NoonaFebruary 06, 2014 10:31 PM

I've answered your lovely questions and added them to my Liebster Post!!

  3. Excellent! I shall go and read them now!

  4. I got a bit teary-eyed with your introduction. (LOL, true story though ;_;) You sure did build a wonderful world through your Kdrama watching~ ^^

  5. As I don't have a blog where I could answer the questions, I'll do it here instead.
1.Who are some guys (or girls) that you can just stare at for days and night without them even having to do anything?
This is an incredibly easy question for me - of course it's mu husband, Yoon Hyun Min, more commonly known as Cutie Soo or Aoki. I don't even know how I came to loving him, it just happened the moment he appeared for the first time on my screen <3
If I were to mention another person it'd be Lay(Yixing) from EXO. And as for the 3rd place, I could stare at Taemin from Shinee all day long, oh yes, I could.

    2. If I were to visit you in your city/country, what activity/touristy thing would you want to do? (If you want to, please include where that might be)
I guess that if you were to visit my city I'd guide around the city informing you along the way of all the historc facts I'm aware of, I'm 'nerdish' like that. I'd also take you to some restaurants, cook for you at home, but mostly we'd be talking about and watching dramas, wouldn't we?

    3. What is your favourite K-drama (or K-pop) trope?
I don't seem to have one, so instead I'll name my favourite broadcasting station as that may tell you something about my 'taste' in dramas - jTBC be it.

    4. What is your favourite Korean food? (Or if you haven't eaten Korean food, just your favourite food)
Bibimbap! Or maybe ramyeon as it's cheap ;p

    5. (And I did ask this question last time) Please recommend a K-drama (or Korean film) for me to watch. You can see which dramas and films I have already watched on our ratings page (I'm the one who writes in blue).
Watch, WATCH 'Memories of Murder'. Once you see it, you'll know why I recommended it.

  6. Who didn't? It's that beautiful.

  7. Yoon Hyun Min is beyootiful!!!!!!!!!! Aw, Taemin, he's so adorable. I don't know Lay as well, but from what I've seen I like.

I look forward to your tour ^^ (and of course all the talking about dramas too). And I like the tone of jTBC dramas as well (Cruel City might just be favourite K-drama to date).

Eek! I am not sure if I can handle "Memories of Murder"...I know that bustered has watched it...but yeah...I am a bit of a chicken sometimes like that. I have been thinking about it though.

  8. Gee guys! You're making me feel self-conscious. It's just such a lovely world to be immersed in. It's hard to describe to the non K-drama peeps.

  9. Can't answer 1 as I don't write about Dramas, as for the rest:

    2. Favourite trope - Strong, independent woman. A look at my top scores on mydramalist shows Kim Sam Soon, City Hall, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, Dr Champ, I Hear Your Voice and School 2013 all toward the top. In every one of these, the lead was a woman who was not defined by a romantic relationship - in School 2013 there wasn't any such relationship. I do love me a good K Drama romance, but it's so much better if the woman is not required to give up her brains and independence in the process.

    3. Favourite OTP - QIHM couple, by a hair's breadth over Jang Hye Sung & Park Soo Ha from IHYV. I've watched both these series more times than I count, and both OTPs are magic for me. An honourable mention for third place must go to YJ & SCP from Answer Me 1994 - that series would have lost me by Episode 6 if were not for that amazing couple

    4. I've only ever had SLS once - in the awful Mary Stayed Out All Night. JGS makes my skin crawl, and seeing the dashing and dreamy KJW's character grow from selfish cold chaebol into a decent, caring man and get nada for it made me hate that Drama.

    5. I don't pay attention to a lot of MV's except fan ones on Youtube, if I had a won for every time I've listened to the IHYV OST I'd be able to fly to Seoul, with the QIHM OST paying for the upgrade to first class. The one song that still gets me every single time though, no matter how often I hear it, is the awesome Booranhan Sarang from City Hall. Magic!

    6. Dr Jin. I can't believe I actually watched that thing right through, in the vain hope that it would (a) get good or (b) at least start to make sense. Joint Runners-up, Pasta, ( an emphatic "No, Chef!" from me after eight of the most boring hours of K Drama I have seen ) and Padam Padam, which slowed my heartbeat to a coma and killed me after 9 episodes despite HEAVY use of the fast-forward button.

    7. A work in progress. Details to come, but it definitely involves a Yoon Eun Hye character getting lost while on holiday in New Zealand and relying on a strange old man with a limp and a Korean vocabulary of about ten words to help her through her ordeal.

    8. Yoon Eun Hye. I would quite literally watch her read the phone book. There's something about her that completely stole my K Drama heart, AND makes me genuinely want to meet her, not something I normally feel about celebrities. As for sheer "stare at them all day" beauty , Son Ye Jin, Ha Ji Won and Jun Ji Hyun would be my picks

    9. Since my blog isn't K-related, I'm going with "N/A" for this one.

    10. My lovely wife is not AS addicted as I am, but does enjoy watching a few with me. Our tastes are a little different (Playful Kiss as favourite, really?) but we 're currently watching You Who Came From the Stars, I Need Romance 3, and Emergency Couple together, and also endured the trauma that was the destruction of Prime Minister and I

I've only just realised that maybe I wasn't supposed to to try to answer them all - sorry!

  10. It's fun getting to know the "neighbours" so I don't mind if you answered a bunch.

My Name is Kim Samsoon is my very first K-drama, it will always have a special place in my heart! I really want to watch City Hall! And man, I don't know how I made it through Pasta...I know some people love that drama, but not me!

I hope that my significant other one day will watch drama with me! Or at least understand my K-drama love ^^

    Thanks for commenting!

  11. Hello neighbor! Is it weird that I just heard of the Liebster award thing? Or am I just a really bad blogger? Is this like an annual thing? I don't know what to do with myself... Anyways, thanks for the nod! I'll probably make an individual post on this because I don't trust Disqus editing abilities and I tend to ramble so... I'll get back to you when I'm done!

  12. What a wonderfully written post! Isn't it great to live in an area where you can meet. I've been really privileged to meet two so far: Young Ajummah (Sara) and Missienelly (Nelly). Hope to add another one next month when they drag me to a concert with the Dynamic Duo!! I'll answer all of them because there is nothing I like better than to talk about drama:

If I were to visit you in your city/country, what activity/touristy
thing would you want to do? (If you want to, please include where that
    might be)

Surprisingly, the first country I would like to visit is not S Korea but India! I've been planning a trip for 3 years and I've yet to be able to afford it. I want to fly into the southern portion, Bangalore where my good friend who works with me lives (we plan on going together). Then we will take the luxury train ride north so I can visit my adopted family in Kolkata. I hope to really be able to do this before I die. It's so freaking expensive!

What is your favourite K-drama (or K-pop) trope?
I admit that the my knowledge of K-pop is really from the dramas. But I have my ultimate favorite songs and I must say the one artist that I have the most songs from are from K.Will. What an absolutely wonderful voice; however, since watching King's Daughter, I have fallen in love with Seo Hyu Jin's beautiful voice. She used to be with MILK and still her voice is wonderful!!

What is your favourite Korean food? (Or if you haven't eaten Korean food, just your favourite food)
Whenever I get a chance, I go the H Mart not far from where I work and I must get Bibimbap! I absolutely LOVE it!!

(And I did ask this question last time) Please recommend a K-drama (or Korean film) for me to watch. You can see which dramas and films I have already watched on our ratings page (I'm the one who writes in blue).
Hard to say. I agree with a lot of your ratings but then I see a lot of them that I absolutely love that you don't. As I am older, I really shy away from HS and romances; they tend to bore me. However, I love historical and family dramas with a passion. Since last year and Glass Mask, I'm stuck in daily drama HELL! I love them! And unfortunately, the two I would recommend are daily dramas.

I absolutely LOVED Ugly Alert! I loved it so much, I wrote several blog posts on it. Not only on my blog but others. The writer promised us no cliques and she delivered! The story was complete and the ending was perfect! The second one is drama I'm currently watching which has been the most romantic saguek I've seen to date.

The King's Daughter, Soo Baek Hyang made me become disinterested in Empress Ki (not a fan of love triangles anyway). The story has been pretty solid but it is still airing. Unfortunately, it is competing against a lot of more popular dramas so it is being overlooked but so far everyone who has started it (based on my recommendation), are totally i loved with it and now understand why I rave so much about. Sadly, with the holidays and Olympics, they keep cutting the number of episodes. Last count, we are down to 110 but there are rumors of another cut to 105. Mad I will be very sad about that!

Thanks again for the nod! Maybe one day, I'll make it to your neck of the woods!!

  13. After reading this, I read the first paragraph again about 10 times and was shocked to find myself tearing up! What a perfectly, beautiful way to describe this lovely family I've found. :) Thank you.

    1) I got into blogging when Goodange asked if I was interested in writing. I was thrilled to be part of their blog (huge fangirl of Clock's *hee*) and haven't come down from that high yet. (LOL)

Favorite OTP is (and might always be) Boong-Do/Hee Jin from QIHM. That drama was hugely fascinating to me in the way it very SLOWLY spread through the blogosphere, attracting new viewers and bloggers writing it up. Amazing.

Favorite food? Noodles, of course. *kekeke*

I was going to recommend "Shut Up: Flower Boy Band" but I think it's on your watch list? So I'll say the Korean movie "Blind" (2011) with Kim Ha-neul and cutie-pie Yoo Seung-ho. I've never seen him play this type of character before. Not scary but a nail-biter. Thanks again for this!

  14. I can't say how thrilled I am that the metaphor paragraph is being so well received! It makes my day!

I love your gals' blog! I especially love all the beautiful pictorials you post! The QIHM OTP is pretty much one of my all time faves. And if I remember correctly, you were the QIHM FB fan page manager, right?! That is probably still the best FB fan page I've ever seen.

I am two episodes away from being done with SU:FBB, which I love whole-heartedly...but it's been paused for months now, so it's really hard to finish. I need to get to it soon though! And I will most definitely look into "Blind" ^^ Thanks for the recommendation! It looks really interesting (and it has Yoo Seung Ho in it! Yay!)

  15. Thanks for all the recommendations!!! I will have to look into them. I would also love to go to India, but I want to go up north to Punjab and Rajasthan. And Delhi as well. Bollywood is what got me into K-drama after all, and I ended up taking a few semesters of Hindi too (and got my Hindi teacher hooked on K-drama as well ^^).

  16. I look forward to your response! The Liebster Award thing is a blogger award that tends to make its rounds every now and again. kfangurl has a lovely explanation of it on her blog: http://thefangirlverdict.com/2013/05/24/a-liebster-award-kinda/

  17. Hello neighbour. I replied in a post too...though I didn't quite reply every question of yours. http://maymaywatch.blogspot.com/2014/02/liebster-award-reflection-of-lazy.html

  18. Yay! Thank you for answering my questions~ I enjoyed reading them. ^^

Wow, Hermione? Well, you actually sound pretty smart so that's not surprising at all. :)

Ooooh, I'm interested in Bollywood, too, but I've only watched a few movies. I want to watch more but I'm not sure where to start! ^^ I'd love to sing Suddenly, too! But I don't have the voice for it. In fact, I don't have the voice for any song </3 haha

  19. Haha, maybe it's because I am on the bossy-know-it-all side ;)

Bollywood is tonnes of fun! I am working on a Bollywood blog...but I am not very far with it. I think that singing in front of people is terrifying! (But it gets easier as you do it more...I once messed up so badly on an audition for a high school musical. Luckily it was student run so my friends gave me a second chance ^^).

  20. You seem like such a fun person that I sure I would have a total blast visiting you! (I'm the oldest of 5 children, so I am sure there are times I have contributed to my mom becoming a zombie ;) but I think she misses it a bit since she's an empty-nester these days.

    Ddeokbokki is so delicious!!!!!!!!!!

I have been meaning to get to the Master's Sun and I keep on getting recommendations for it, so I guess I shall really have to start it soon!

And that Boyfriend concert sounds like a blast! I went to a BIGBANG concert in 2012 and it was AMAZING!!!!!! And I totally know what you mean about this city of ours being a link to sanity. It is such a lovely place!

  21. Oppa!!!! It was most definitely not a mistake that your name found its way into this post! ^^ And if you ever wanted to write something as a guest poster here, feel free too (though I am sure your potential future blog would also be awesome!)

Also, I am not going to lie, when I first read your comment, I looked up plane fares from Korea to Malaysia (because at some point I'll be living there). All the food and activities, and spending time with Oppa sound fabulous!

And I am so glad that you and so many others love the forced cohabitation so much! So I will most definitely have to try out Delightful Girl Chun-hyan then ^^

And Pepero sticks are excellent! I am partial to Japanese curry myself, but my one and only experience with sushi was awful (other than the delicious wasabi and shaved ginger). Granted that was a good 12 years ago. Perhaps it's time I give sushi another chance.

  22. Thank you! I totally know what you mean about changing OTPs! It looks like I will have to do a joint tour with you and Ricky in Malaysia then!

Ah, back hugs. There really is just something about them, isn't there?!

Japchae is delicious! I made some just the other week. I will admit though that I LOVE ddeokbokki...I like the chewiness.

And the trailer for Pychometry looks super interesting! (And it's Kim Kang Woo and Kim Bum!!!!)

  23. It really is, isn't it? The more I wander around this city of ours, the more incredible people I meet and the more friends I make all of which makes the world seem like a brighter and better place. I like that.

I'm totally jealous you got to see BIGBANG! I can't even imagine how amazing that would be. I keep hoping they'll make their way back to the States... If they ever do, you can be sure I'll be there!

You really do need to watch The Master's Sun. It's fantastic! If you ever want another recommendation or just want to talk K-dramas, K-pop or anything else, you know where to find me. I'm that crazy blue-haired zombie lady that just moved in next door (and yes, my hair really is blue... at least for now).

  24. Thank you for the invitation! I don't think I have enough credibility to write here though. I will let y'all professionals do the work. Hee

Wow, you'll be living in Korea? That's great!

I'm glad you liked the first episode of DGCH. Jae-hee's facial expressions are hilarious!

You should try sushi again. I cannot stop eating them, to be frank. Bring on the Salmonella, I'll take the chance.

  25. Haha, whatever, you totally have the creds to write here! Yeah, I am trying to get work in Korea...and then I'll be in Asia and closer to all the Asian drama addicts ^^ And I really do appreciate the DGCH recommendation, it's proving quite delightful!

And okay, I will give sushi another chance. I have a drama watching friend who is a sushi eating expert and she knows all the good places in town to go and eat it... :D

  26. Okay, so I'm a late with the response (why hello there those law textbooks glaring at me, I'll get to you guys...some time!). It's an honor to be part of this awesome community =)

    To answer a few...

    1. Who do you have the most severe SLS (Second Lead Syndrome) towards?
JEREMY! From You're Beautiful. Without Jeremy, I don't think I would have become such a kdrama lover. Certainly without Jeremy and by extension Hong Ki Oppa, I would not have an undying love for kpop!
    2. If I were to visit you in your city/country, what activity/touristy thing would you want to do? (If you want to, please include where that might be)
If you visit, I suggest let's plan for a date when a kpop star or two is on tour and stopping by LA (and we have to visit Caffebeane because yes, their coffee tastes better.
    3. What is your favourite K-drama (or K-pop) trope?
The one that gets me every time is a great group of friends whether they are your fellow band members or coworkers or ducklings from another century!
    4. What is your favourite Korean food? (Or if you haven't eaten Korean food, just your favourite food)
Ramen! (Especially on a 14hr flight)
    5. (And I did ask this question last time) Please recommend a K-drama (or Korean film) for me to watch. You can see which dramas and films I have already watched on our ratings page (I'm the one who writes in blue).

Two recommendations depending on whether you have enough love for a particular actor.
For Nam Goong Min (whose smile does wonders for my mood), there is Can You Hear My Heart, in which he does not smile enough but when he does, boy does my heart get the flutters.
For Jung Kyung Ho, watch Smile, You (a bit on the long side) but so much cuteness (nothing like the amazing Doctor's Son from Cruel City).
And as a general recommendation: Tamra's Island! The first episode is sort of silly but it only gets better from there.

And as always, may another episode come tomorrow to ease our aching hearts ^.^

  27. Oh law school *sigh* I have a roommate who's in law school right now, and I just finished my MA...so yeah...school can take away time.

Um! Yes!!! We should totally do a K-pop event together!!! (and go to the Face Shop too!). The only time I was ever in LA's Korea town was at night while trying to find someplace to eat, and I think the Koreans were like, um, why are you in Korea town?

Ah! I also love that trope! I will forever love the little quartet from Rooftop Prince so much! That elevator changing scene...hilarious! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m8SPvPmE44)

Oh Jung Kyung Ho, I love that man. I will check those out ^^ Thanks for the recommendations!

Good luck with the studying! Hwaiting!!! ^^~

  28. Oooooh, do let us know once you're ready to share your Bollywood blog! I'll be so happy to read it. :)

  29. I guess I had actually better get it share-worthy then ^^

  30. Loved the post! And I commented there ^^

  31. I've had this page open for days to remind myself that I actually had to respond to it. Where did the time go?

    1. Who could I stare at all day? Park Ki Woong! He smiles. I smile. Who doesn't want to smile all day?
    2. I'd want to visit Ireland and dance on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
    3. I'd have to go for out of wedlock pregnancies or contract marriages. Or maybe the two combined. I just like stories about people finding love unexpectedly and in the little things instead of the epic melodrama.
    4. Kimchi Jeon is probably my favorite cuz it's pretty easy to make, but I love japchae and I love the pickled cucumber side dishes.
    5. And I'm yet again going to recommend a tw-drama. Autumn's Concerto. I can't get enough of it.

  32. Oh Park Ki Woong! He is so lovely! He was however rather creepily fantastic as the villain in Gaksital. I am still a little nervous when he gets angry in other dramas because of that. I think I also need to eventually finish Gaksital...

I like that. Love unexpectedly and not the epic melodrama. There is definitely a quiet beauty to that kind of love story.

I think the first Taiwanese drama I watch is just going to have to be Autumn's Concerto, just because you love it so. I was actually just thinking about maybe starting it...maybe. I have no idea why I am so hesitant to start another drama genre.

  33. Hi Deewani, I've posted my Liebster post. Come and check out: http://wp.me/p3xBcq-LO

  34. Haha, one day I feel like I should at least watch Autumn's Concerto (and maybe some ones with George Hu because he's cute) ;)

  35. Snoopy's TwinkieMarch 12, 2014 12:04 AM

Hi! I'm so bad with leaving comments on a consistent basis, but I wanted to pop in and say I loved reading this when I received my email notification and I love reading it again tonight as I wind down for the evening. Thank you for inviting me to be your neighbor! ;)

  36. ㅋㅋ No worries. I am so glad you enjoyed it and I am so glad we are neighbours too ^^

  37. I love the pictures! And you write so beautifully! Oh such feels!

  38. Thank you! ❤❤❤ It is a really beautiful MV, and I am glad the pics turned out well.

  39. Jaime the Drama NoonaApril 22, 2015 4:22 AM

Omo!!!! I absolutely loved this post! A city without houses or walls, what amazing imagery! And a perfectly poetic way to describe us. So much love for this! Thank you for putting it all into a post and adding such sweet and sincere flair! I will be answering your questions very soon chingu!

  40. LOVE this post! You just give me an idea about how to tell my future children about my obsession. It's a city full of delight, indeed :)

I've answered the questions in my Liebster post (http://thetalkingcupboard.wordpress.com/2014/02/06/liebster-for-you/) but posting them here as well.

    1. Who is your favourite OTP and why?
It's hard to choose my favourite OTP because it tends to change rather sporadically. New shows means more OTPs...and it never ends! My current favourite is Seolnan/Myungnong from King's Daughter, Soo Baek Hyang, simply because they have the power to make me smile, laugh, and cry just from looking at their pictures.

    2. If you come to Malaysia, you can visit the islands and the beaches (Lee Jong-suk came to one of the islands, Langkawi, for a photoshoot!) but I would suggest a food tour. You won't regret it! Besides visiting different states, you get to taste the mixture of flavours in the dishes, just like our integrated culture.

    3. Back hugs! Gimme my back hugs and you'll get my love, shows!

    4. Japchae! Ddukbokki is too rubbery for my taste...or maybe it'll be different in Korea?

    5. Psychometry (2013), starring Kim Kang-woo and Kim Bum. A crime thriller that makes me completely fall for Kim Bum.

Thank you, neighbour, for being an awesome companion! All of us might be physically separated by oceans and continents but our hearts remain together in this little city ;)

  41. Your opening paragraph made me feel feelings.

Thank you for slipping my name in this blog post. I’m not entirely sure if it was intentional but I feel sospecial because of that! Heh J

I don’t have a blog (I should really start one, eh?), so I‘ll answer your questions here.

Do you have someone to watch dramas with?

I was reluctant to reveal my obsession to my roommates and friends. Let’s face it, how many guys do you know who actually watch Korean dramas? My roommates would be playing their computer games and I’d be cooped up in my room pretending to study. So to answer your question, when I first started watching dramas, I had no companion. It was my
dirty little secret. It’s different now because I met all of you!

If I were to visit you in your city/country, what activity/touristy thing would you want to do? (If you want to, please include where that might be)

2014 is visit Malaysia year, FYI!
A melting pot of culture, language and food, we butcher English into an unrecognizable new language we affectionately named Manglish. Visit the white beaches of the islands in Sabah and climb Mount Kinabalu. Try out our national dish, nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk
& eaten with a spicy chili sauce thingy), then have a midnight supper session at a mamak restaurant with some teh tarik and roti canai.

What is your favourite K-drama (or K-pop) trope?

    Forced cohabitation!

Gimme all the bickering and awkwardness and then lemme melt with the stolen glances and
    skinship. YES YES YES!

What is your favourite Korean food? (Or if you haven't eaten Korean food, just your favourite food)?

I’m gonna say Pepero sticks! Hee ^^
Seriously though, I preferJ apanese food. I like sushi, especially.

Finally, a drama recommendation for you:

Delightful Girl Chun-hyang by the Hong Sisters is still one of my all-time favourites. It has the standard contract marriage trope. Why don’t you try watching it?

    That's all!

  42. Amen! It really does seem like a brighter and better place in the bloggersphere.

The BIGBANG concert was EXCELLENT!!! They are such amazing performers! I wrote a post about it http://www.samsoondowntherabbithole.com/2012/12/dewaanifordramas-playlist-bigbang.html Ah! Whenever songs from the concert come up on my playlist, I get this smile on my face and remember how amazing it was! The energy was just phenomenal! Enough gushing about it ^^

Maybe I'll start Master's Sun then tonight...we'll have to see. And I love that your hair is blue ^^

  43. Finally got a chance to post it up :) Again, thanks for the questions! Apparently the Liebster Awards thing includes a little facts about me portion, but I can't be bothered at the moment :p http://weeatlemon.blogspot.com/2014/02/liebster-award.html

  44. Don't worry about starting another genre. Sadly Twdramas are full of duds. This the golden shiny example and the only one I truly love out of the hundred or so that I've watched. Unless you're in the mood for a fluffy cute cheesy drama with very little plot and some fun chemistry. Then the rest of the dramas can get a bit addicting.
